Victor Joseph Cekola of Kalamazoo passed away Sunday, December 5, 2021, at Ascension Borgess Hospital. Victor was born December 18, 1951, in Kalamazoo, the son of Anthony and Theresa (Fiocchetti) Cekola. He was attended St. Augustine School and graduated from Hackett Catholic High School. Victor was a devoted Catholic, who taught Sunday school at St. Mary’s Catholic Church until the school was torn down, and was currently a parishioner at St. Ambrose Catholic Church. He was an avid writer, who participated in various writing groups and made many friends through writing, including his best friend and later fiancée, Tudy Boldin. He enjoyed serving as a Boy Scout Troup Leader when his kids were young. Victor had worked at Western Michigan University in environmental controls for the last 15 years. Prior to that he worked for many years as a forklift mechanic at James River Paper Company. He was an active member, serving as the Recorder, of the Knights of Columbus Council #9962 and Assembly #0513. Surviving are five children, Anthony “Tony” (Kim) Cekola, Tressa Cekola, Rosalice “Rosie” (Jeff) Hall, Jaqueline “Jax” Cekola, Thomas “Tom” Cekola; seven grandchildren, Carson, Conan, Alexis, Ethan, Josephine, Morgan, and William; fiancée, Tudy Boldin; six brothers and sisters, Pasqua Warstler, Rosemary (Jay) Cotter, Joseph (Krista) Cekola, Anthony (Ruth) Cekola, Margaret (Harry) Hausmanis, Gilda (Rolfe) Behrje; former wife, Patricia Russell; numerous nieces & nephews. Friends and family are being received 5-8 pm Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at Redmond Funeral Home, Kalamazoo where a Rosary will be recited at 7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 am Thursday at St. Augustine Cathedral. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
