Stanley F. Cleland passed away peacefully on June 4, 2018 at Friendship Village in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was born on February 12, 1927 near Fulton (southeast Kalamazoo County), Michigan to James and Hazel (Peters) Cleland. Following his service in the Army, Stanley graduated from MSU with a Bachelor’s degree. He married his loving wife Betty Bender on September 11, 1949. Shortly afterwards, they moved to Kalamazoo where he worked for many years as a microbiologist at Upjohn. Stanley is survived by his wife Betty, children; Bruce (Penelope) Cleland, Brian (Kathleen) Cleland and Bradley (Paula) Cleland, grandchildren; Meridith Kammerzell, Jerod Cleland, Erik Cleland, Christopher Cleland, Stephen Cleland and Michael Cleland,extended grandchildren; Jesse Scarburgh, Stacey Scarburgh, Callie Lowler, Sean Lowler; great-grandchildren; Jordan Cook and Kaelyn Baker-Cleland. He is preceded in death by his siblings; Paul Cleland, Miriam Brower, Dorothy Abar, John Cleland and Cathryn Coops. There will be a memorial service on July 14th at Friendship Village. Memorial contributions can be made to Rose Arbor Hospice.
