Passed away Sunday March 7, 2021 at home. Jack was born December 20, 1932 in Kalamazoo the son of H.S. and Elizabeth (Dougherty) Welborn. He was a graduate of Gull Lake High School and Drove Gull Lake School Bus, Owned Welborn Antique Shop for over 25 years. Jack was elected to the Cooper Township Commissioner and elected Supervisor, then Michigan State House of Representatives and then served as State Senator where he was involved in Right to Life and state mental health. Jack ran for Michigan Governor in 1982; he was a member of the Gull Lake and Parchment School Boards, Cooper Twp. Fire Dept, and Kalamazoo GOP. He loved watching his grandchildren’s play sports, going to auctions and working in his workshop. On August 15, 1952 in Parchment Jack was united in marriage to the former Dorothy Yeomans who survives. Also surviving are Three children, Kayla Barry of Cooper Twp, Kami (Doug) Smoker of Galesburg, John (Tiffany) Welborn of Kalamazoo; four grandchildren, Alison (Blaine), Amanda (Matthew), Ben (Teaira), Joey (Brianna); two step-grandchildren, Sam and Taylor; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces & nephews; his dog, Tyson. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Clarence, Sterling, Raymond, and State Senator Robert Welborn. Friends will be received 2-4 & 6-8 pm Wednesday March 10, 2021 at Parchment Redmond Funeral Home. Private family services will be held Thursday. Interment will be in East Cooper Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Henry Troyer for the Amish Emergency Fund.
