Passed away peacefully on March 22, 2023 at home. Sam was born in Muskegon Heights, MI. on November 22, 1918, the son of Paul and Elizabeth (Marko) Hornak Sr. After graduating from Muskegon Heights High School Class of 1936, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, and later in the Army Reserve retiring as a Major with 36 years of military service. Sam worked for 30 years in electrical wholesale and retired from All Phase Electrical Supply Company of Kalamazoo in 1984. He enjoyed travelling the world, living at Lake Doster, Michigan and worshipping at the First Presbyterian Church of Plainwell. Sam was preceded in death by 1st wife: Ila Louise (O'Dell) on August 28, 1975, son: Samuel James on April18, 2013, 2nd wife: Janet Elaine (Temple) on January 1, 2013, and step-son Larry Temple on April 1, 2008. Surviving are 2 children: Laurel (Charles) Caswell of Portage, Daniel (Judy) Hornak of Mt. Airy, NC., step-daughter Charlane (Carl) Anderson of Arlington Hts., Il., and a niece, Susan Hornak of Kentwood Mi. Sam enjoyed being a grand parent to 10 and a great grandparent to 16. A celebration of Sam's life will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 910 West Main, Kalamazoo Mi. at 11am on April 22, 2023. Fellowship & Food will follow immediately after the service. Memorials may be made to: St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Centrica Care Navigators.
