Ronald John Smith

Ronald J. Smith of Mattawn, passed away Tuesday March 10, 2020 at Bronson Methodist Hospital. Ronald was born October 5, 1947 in Grand Rapids the son of John and Dorothy (Ainsworth) Smith. He was Vietnam veteran serving in the U.S. Army. Ronald received his master’s degree from Illinois Missionary Baptist Institute and was the pastor of Grace Missionary Baptist Church in Mattawan and was employed by Burroughs Mfg. He taught hunter safety and was a member of the Paw Paw Conservation Club. On June 20, 1969 in Wyoming Ronald was united in marriage to the former Sandra Baird who survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Tara (David) Bednarski, Debra Smith, Ronda Crittendon; Dottie (Michael) Burchard; two brothers, Daniel (Marlene) Smith; Steven Smith; three sisters, Diana (Frank) Hall, Jackie (Thomas) VanDreumel, Mary (James) Miller; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Mikie Smith; son-in-law, Kevin Smith. A Memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
