Rodney James Russell II, beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend passed away unexpectedly Friday, June 16, 2023, at Bronson Methodist Hospital. He was born on December 21, 1985, in Paw Paw, Michigan to Rodney and Vivian Russell.
He graduated from Mattawan High School in 2004 and as a young entrepreneur, founded Kleen Kutt Lawn Care and Landscaping. Known to many as RJ, he was a true outdoorsman with a passion for hunting, fishing, and skiing. His biggest endeavor was racing cars. He drove an outlaw front wheel drive racing car, Number 11 at various speedways including his beloved hometown speedways Galesburg and Kalamazoo. Also, M-40, Corrigan Oil, Historic Mottville, Springport, Owosso, New Paris in Indiana and Freedom Factory in Florida.
Aside from his adventurous pursuits, RJ was generous, had an infectious smile and hearty laugh. RJ was a man of deep compassion and kindness, known for always staying in touch with family and friends. He touched the lives of many with his selfless acts of generosity and unwavering support. RJ had a unique ability to connect with people on a personal level and was always there to lend a helping hand.
RJ is survived by his loving parents, Rodney and Vivian, his sisters, Miya (Matthew) Daigle, Natalie (Justin) Melching and Michelle Russell. Nephew and Niece, Jayden and Sienna. He was also a bonus uncle to Lilly, Kenley and Carter. His biggest pride and joy was his nephew Jayden, who gave RJ the name “Big Guy”, their special bond began the day Jayden was born. He also had a very special relationship with his Uncle Mike, Kevin “Old Dad” Schaffer, Cy Johnson, and the Foote family. Also included is the racing community as well as many other special friends and family, too numerous to name out.
