GOODWIN, Robert I. KALAMAZOO Robert Irwin Goodwin passed away Friday September 29, 2017 at Bronson Methodist Hospital. Robert was born February 24, 1932 in Bloomington, IN the son of Irwin and Ruth (Hendrickson) Goodwin. Robert received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from University of Illinois and was a teacher for Kalamazoo Public Schools at Oakwood Junior High, Millwood Junior High and Central High School. He was also the Superintendent of Buildings & Grounds overseeing building KCHS. Robert owned RIG Enterprises; he was a private pilot, a member of AOPA, EAA, and Plainwell Pilots. He was active in the MEA, NEA, and a member of First United Methodist Church remaining active for 57 years. Robert was also an Arbor Credit Union board member. On December 23, 1956 in Ft. Wayne, IN Robert was united in marriage to the former Barbara Bilger who survives. Also surviving are three children, Dave (Rebecca) Goodwin of Portland, OR, Katherine Goodwin of Denver, CO, Steve (Nancy) Goodwin of Orlando, FL; five grandchildren, Ryan, Adam, David, Olivia, Andrew; brother, Mark (Gwen) Goodwin of Bloomington, IN. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Donald Goodwin; sister, Dorothy Roberts. A memorial service will be held 1 pm Friday October 6, 2017 at First United Methodist Church, 212 S. Park St. Kalamazoo, MI 49007, with Rev. Dan Duncan, Officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Kalamazoo Food Pantry.
