Richard E. Hartenberger passed away Tuesday February 26, 2019 at Ascension Borgess Hospital. Richard was born October 8, 1941 in Detroit the son of Emil and Martha (Trabandt) Hartenberger. He was a U.S. Army Reserve veteran serving during the Vietnam War. Richard received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Wayne State University and was a teacher in the Bloomfield Hills School System. He was also an industrial designer for several manufacturing firms in Michigan. He was a private pilot, scuba diver and enjoyed photography and many outdoor activities. On June 20, 1970 in Grand Haven Richard was united in marriage to the former Julia Kendall who survives. Also surviving are his daughter, Britt (Anastase Markou) Hartenberger of Kalamazoo; brother-in-law Dennis (Diana) Kendall of Grand Haven; brother, Werner (Karen) Hartenberger of Sarasota, FL; two step-grandchildren, Keelin and Aria. Friends will be received 1-2 pm Saturday March 9, 2019 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 247 W. Lovell St., Kalamazoo where services will follow at 2 pm.
