Richard O. Dailey, 92, of Kalamazoo, passed away July 29, 2024 at Story Point in Kalamazoo. Richard was born October 24, 1931, in Coldwater, the son of Garr and Katherine (Otis) Dailey. Richard graduated from St. Charles Borromeo School in Coldwater, and went on to attend the University of Notre Dame, Hillsdale College, Florida State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree, and the University of Hawaii where he earned his master’s degree. Richard worked as a social worker for the State of Michigan at the Kalamazoo Regional Psychiatric Hospital, from where he retired. He was a member of the Michigan State Employee Retirees Association (MI-SERA), St. Monica Catholic Church, was a founding member of Catholic Charities for the Diocese of Kalamazoo. In addition to being an active church member, Richard served the community on various boards, including Kairos Dwelling and Borgess Hospital.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and siblings and is survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Richard was a resident of Story Point Kalamazoo at Bronson Place where he was very active and loved by the residents and staff. A memorial service will be held at Story Point Kalamazoo at Bronson Place, 1700 Bronson Way, Kalamazoo, MI on Friday, August 16, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. in the auditorium, with Father Don Klingler officiating. Richard will be laid to rest at Oak Grove Cemetery in Coldwater. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Dailey Family Foundation c/o the Kalamazoo Community Foundation.
