Mrs. Rajamma David (“Rajam”, “Mummy”, “Achamma”) went to her eternal home to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of Tuesday, October 18, 2022. She was 73 years old. Born in Kidangannur, Kerala, India, to Mr. T. M. George and Mrs. Mariamma George, she grew up with four sisters and one brother on a farm, surrounded by fruit trees, animals and streams. Even after moving to Mumbai to pursue a career in Nursing, she returned home every year to “God’s Own Country” where her heart always belonged. She met her husband Mr. Chunkath Mathew David of Kunnamkulam, Kerala, India while traveling between Mumbai and Kerala. Their loving marriage of nearly 40 years was one of her greatest joys in life. They moved to Indore, Madhya Pradesh, in 1975 where they lived and built a life centered on family, church and community. After the birth of her only child, she went back to get her Bachelors and Masters degrees in English Literature, and another Bachelors degree in Education. This led to a career in Education spanning 35 years as a High School English Teacher and Principal. She was an active member of the Indore Marthoma Church, working alongside her husband on various social initiatives and participating most actively in the church choir. After her husband’s sudden demise in 2013, she continued to work until her retirement in 2016, and then relocated to Singapore to be with her son and his wife. She moved to the United States in 2019 when her granddaughter was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In July 2022, she arrived in Kalamazoo, Michigan, as a result of her son’s work-related relocation. She faithfully read her Bible everyday. After a commitment to God and church, she believed that education was the next most important pursuit. She loved her family deeply and was always ready to receive and welcome visitors into the family home and to cook for them. Her terrace was always filled with fruit trees, rose bushes and other flowers and plants. While she loved to travel and admire beautiful churches, amazing beaches and majestic mountains around the world, nothing made her as happy as strolling through a flower garden and admiring God’s handiwork in the artistry and colors of nature. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Mrs. Susamma Varghese. She is survived by her son Simon David Chunkath, daughter-in-law Deven Nelson Chunkath, granddaughter Elizabeth “Izzy” Chunkath, sisters Mrs. Mariamma Skariah, Mrs. Annamma Mathai, Mrs. Rosamma Joseph and brother Rev. Sam George. Her visitation will be held from 5pm to 7pm on Sunday October 23, 2022, at Redmond Funeral Home, Kalamazoo. A Funeral will be held on Monday October 24, 2022 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, with a visitation starting at 11am followed by Funeral Service at 12pm (9:30pm IST). She will be laid to rest at the City of Portage Central Cemetery.
