Mary Lou Krieger (Kriegowski) Hunt passed away at the home of Jim and Jan Hunt on July 28, 2023, after a prolonged illness. Born on March 29, 1932, in Benton Harbor, Michigan to Louis and Mary Simon Krieger, she was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Roy and Lloyd Krieger, and husband Dr. Jack Hunt. She leaves behind four children: John (Edita), Mary Katherine, James (Jan), and Thomas (Lisa). Mary Lou was known to the grandchildren she loved as Grandma Tractor, Grandma Pool, and Grandma Lou. They include Kelly (Tomas), Michael, Shelly, Steve, Anna (Ronnie), Lewis, Nathan (Alexandra), Alyssa, Oliver, and her great grandchildren Madelyn, and Logan.
Mary Lou graduated from Benton Harbor High School where she was a baton twirler known for her great legs, and beautiful smile. It was there that she fell in love with Jack after he asked, “will you be my girlfriend?” In 1952, they were married and moved to Ann Arbor where Jack became a medical student at the University of Michigan. Mary Lou supported them as a telephone operator until he graduated in 1956. During their sixty-nine years of marriage they raised their family in Comstock when Dr. Hunt established the Gull Road Medical Practice with his sons.
Mary Lou was an avid photographer (very creative in the darkroom), golfer, bridge player, a lucky gambler, and a member of Parchment’s Sonora Street Gang. She was a fan of Freddie Mercury and Queen. If you were lucky, you could be a member of her “you’re so cute” club. She was generous and compassionate and never judged anyone for their place in life. She loved to cook for a crowd. Mary Lou cherished her grandchildren was never happier than when she could sing them to sleep with Polish lullabies.
The family is grateful to the Wings of Hope Hospice for their kindness and loving care. Donations can be made to them or a charity of choice.
