Marjorie Goldsmith, 97, of Kalamazoo, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2025. She was born in Sioux Falls, SD and graduated from South Dakota State in 1949. After a brief internship in Coldwater, MI, she worked in the Environmental Health Division of the City of Kalamazoo until 1953. She obtained her Master’s degree in Public Health Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1954. She then worked as a chemist at the Kalamazoo Wastewater Treatment plant until she went to the Kalamazoo County Health Department in 1955. She continued working there until her retirement in 1993.
She enjoyed taking care of her home and endlessly chatting with friends and family.
She is survived by her nieces Beth (Peter) Brooks of McDonald, PA and Karna (Donald) Ickert of Pittsburgh, great nephews and niece, great great nephews and niece and her dear friends Sandy Ford and her son Matthew of Portage, MI. Her sister, Betty Goldsmith of Kalamazoo and her brothers and sisters in law predeceased her as well as her friends Chuck and Logan Ford.
We would like to thank Friendship Village and Elara Hospice who provided her with such loving care in her last years.
Cremation has taken place, private interment. Memorials can be given to Kalamazoo YWCA or American Red Cross. Arrangements are by Adams – Redmond Funeral Homes, 4100 S. Westnedge Ave., Kalamazoo, MI 49008. (269) 343-6156.
