Larry E. Followell, 72, of Kalamazoo, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo. Larry was born August 21, 1952, in Kalamazoo, the son of Billy and Anna (Lindner) Followell. He was a 1970 graduate of Parchment High School, and then went on to honorably serve his country in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Frankfort, Germany during the Vietnam War. Upon his discharge, he went to work as a machinist at Crown Vantage (Formerly Brown Co. and James River) which he retired from after 28 years of service.
Larry loved cars, especially his 1970 El Camino, and enjoyed participating in the Wednesday Night Cruise-ins at Gilmore Car Museum. He was also a motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson. Larry too was an avid deer hunter, bowled regularly on a league at Eastland Bowl and was a member of the American Legion Post #298 in Battle Creek.
Larry is survived by his partner, Patti Hiatt; his father, Billy Followell; seven siblings, Ken (Lynda) Followell, Jim Followell, Mark (Susan) Followell, Carolyn (Shorty) Roberts, Nancy (Bill) Cross, Donna (David) Mott and Cecil (Terrie Whittredge) Followell; one sister-in-law, Brenda Followell; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Followell, brothers, Ronald and Stanley Followell, sister, Patricia Followell, and sister-in-law, Gerry Followell.
Larry will be laid to rest with full military honors at 11:00 a.m. on January 29, 2025 at Fort Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Road, Augusta, MI 49012. A time of food and fellowship will follow at the St. Ambrose Parish Activity Center, 1628 E. G Avenue, Parchment, MI 49004.
