Passed away September 29, 2019 in his home with his family in attendance. He was preceded in death by his parents Anna (Peters) & Leo Bittner; sisters, Katherine Owel, Dorothy Krank, Jean Baugh-O’Neil; brother, Robert Bittner and baby Boy Bittner. Surviving is his wife of 64 years Laura Bittner, two daughters Barbara (Gary) Loney, Jane (Wayne) Steele; three sons, Stephen (Mary) Bittner, Mike (Lisa) Bittner and Daniel Bittner. 10 grandchildren; Kristen (Adam) Gorman, Briana (Dave) Ophoff, Sean Loney, Kelly Bittner, Evan (Bridget) Bittner, Jennifer Bittner, Allison Bittner Dina Bittner, Jacob Steele, and Bradden Steele ; eight great-grandchildren, Declan and Nolan Gorman, Mae and Sidney Bittner, Levi, Luke, Rose and Eden Ophoff and many nieces & nephews. John graduated from St. Augustine High School in 1948; he served in the U.S. Army for two years during the Korean Conflict. John was employed over 40 years as a sales person at Sherman TV & Appliance; he enjoyed the outdoors, fishing-especially ice fishing, hunting, woodworking, camping and his wonderful family. Friends will be received 6-8 pm Wednesday October 2, 2019 at Redmond Funeral Home, Kalamazoo where a Rosary will be recited at 7:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 am Thursday at St. Monica Catholic Church. Interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions may be made to Loaves & Fishes or St. Monica Church Tuition Assistance.
