James Wesley (Powers) Powell better known as “Dardy” which is what his kids call him, he was born February 15, 1927 in Charleston, Mississippi the son of Elizabeth Jones and father Emmanuel Powers. He dedicated his life to Jehovah in 1958. Eula and James had 12 children (8 girls, 4 boys) who they raised in Tennessee. James decided to move his wife to Lawrence, MI in 1992 where they attended the Lawrence Congregation and cherish many memories. In 2011 they moved to Kalamazoo due to health reasons they attended Kalamazoo West Congregation where they met many more friends who they loved dearly. He loved to listen to music and sing, he especially loved to sing the Kingdom songs and original songs, he also love to dance and shoot pool. He was cheerful and faithful to Jehovah God. James Regular Pioneer in 1981 he loved the ministry; despite his disability he witnessed at every opportunity he loved doing street witnessing. He was preceded in death by his wife Eula, his oldest child James Powell, Jr. and 2 daughters, Eula Johnson and Parlee Hopson. He is survived by his sons, Jimmie (Sandra) Powell of Tennessee, Ricky (Eve) Powell of Indiana, Wayne (Seraph) Powell of Indiana and his daughters, Glenda (Earnest) Scott of Illinois, Betty (Chester) Murphy of Alabama, Erma Powell of Michigan, Mary Cash of Tennessee, Gloria Powell of Michigan, Nan (Melvin) Watts of Indiana; son-in-law, TJ Johnson of Colorado. He loved his brothers, Sam Powers of Memphis, TN and John Powers who preceded in death; sister in law, Bee and his nieces and nephews and he loved all his 23 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was truly a great father and grandfather, James was loved by many and will truly be missed. A memorial service will be held 1 pm Saturday July 6, 2019 at the West Kalamazoo Kingdom Hall.
