James S. Durecki of Kalamazoo passed away Friday January 24, 2020 at Sue’s Loving Care. James was born May 8, 1930 in Alpena the son of the late John and Mary (Jagiela) Durecki. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War. James retired from Upjohn Company and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church where he was active in the Men’s Club and helped start the St. Mary’s BINGO, was on the planning committee for Fr. Bart Hall, one of the original Eucharistic Minister’s, volunteered for Loaves & Fishes, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 65 years. He enjoyed fishing, photography, traveling and polka dancing. On May 12, 1956 in Lake Leelanau James was united in marriage to the former Anna Schaub who preceded him in death on April 24, 2001. Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Louis and Eugene Durecki; four sisters, Dorothy Hanses, Irene Eagle, Sr. Richard Dean (Helen) Durecki, Julia Rita Wesley; grandson, Nicholas Durecki. Surviving are four children, Joseph (Carol) Durecki of Kalamazoo, Michael (Susan) Durecki of Greenville, SC, Jane (Kevin) Sutton of Kalamazoo, Richard (Cari) Durecki of Elkhart, IN; brother, Arnold Durecki of Plymouth; sister, Evelyn Klein of Alpena; four grandchildren, John (Tiffany) Durecki, Theresa Durecki, Rebecca (Eric) Jonardi, Christina (Stephanie) Kovach; three great-granddaughters, Morgan, Reagyn, and Elise; several nieces & nephews. Friends will be received 5-8 pm Thursday January 30, 2020 at Parchment Redmond Funeral Home 2300 East "G" Ave. Parchment, MI 49004 (269) 345-7735 where a Rosary will be recited at 7:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 am Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church. Interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
