Gabrielle P. Termaat, 77, of Kalamazoo, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 27, 2024 at Sue’s Loving Care in Kalamazoo. Gabrielle was born September 24, 1947 in Memphis, Tennessee, the daughter of Roy and Betty (Lloyd) Battles. She was a 1965 graduate of General William Moultrie High School in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Gabrielle went on to work for the Boy Scouts of America in Charleston, SC, the Kalamazoo Family YMCA, where she met her soul sister and best friend, Elaine. Gabrielle rounded out her career with Northwestern Mutual of Milwaukee, WI and finally at Brown University in Providence, RI as executive assistant to the CFO. Gabe was an avid reader, an accomplished hostess and adventurous traveler. Gabrielle’s retirement years were spent happily with her children and grandchildren. She had a talent for making people feel special and no one left her home hungry. Locally she was involved with a lovely group of women who refer to themselves as the Science Club, hosting speakers, generating funds for local causes, providing household goods to families relocating to Kalamazoo from some of the most dangerous, war ravaged places on earth.
Gabrielle is survived by her daughter, Dominique Termaat of Kalamazoo; and twin granddaughters, Lauren and Jenna Whittle. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Betty Battles, her son, Ross Termaat, and her brother, John Battles.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no public service. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Kalamazoo YWCA Women’s Shelter.
