Michael Joseph. Howell, born of the love of Clara (Mager) and Henry in the railroad town of Ottawa, Kansas, on February 11, 1937, came with his parents to Michigan's water wonderland at the end of "The Great Depression" to grow up in and around the farm town of St. Johns. Michael attended St Joseph Catholic Grade School staffed by the Sisters of St. Joseph and graduated from Rodney B. Wilson Public High School in 1956. After three years of college he entered the seminary getting a B.A. from Mount St. Mary's Seminary in Cincinnati, Ohio, and a Masters from St. John's Provincial Seminary in Plymouth, Michigan. He served for a year as a deacon at St. John's Church, Davison, Michigan. After ordination to the priesthood in 1969 he served in St. Paul's Parish, Owosso; St. Charles Parish, Coldwater; St. Joseph Parish, Battle Creek; St. Rose of Lima Parish, Hastings; and then as chaplain at the Kalamazoo Regional Psychiatric Hospital; concluding his years of ministry as chaplain at the Motherhouse for the Sisters of Joseph, Nazareth. God has given Michael many good people with whom to travel his years of faith into ever deeper wisdom and grace. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 1:30 Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Nazareth.
