Betty passed away July 13, 2017 at home. Betty was born in Chicago Heights, IL on May 19, 1932 the daughter of Lester and Harriet (McMurray) Gloor. She lived briefly in Minneapolis and Chicago Heights before settling with her parents in Kalamazoo which she lovingly called home. Betty graduated from St. Augustine High School in 1950. She then went on to earn a BA and MA from Western Michigan University. Betty began her teaching career at Delton Kellogg High School, and then taught at Portage Central High School for a total of 32 years. Her degrees ere in business, leading to her expertise as a teacher of: accounting, typing, shorthand and steno – lab. Betty was coordinator of the PCHS office co-op program and sponger of the school yearbook for most of her career. She loved teaching and her students, always proud of their accomplishments. Closest to her heart, along with her countless friends, are her many cousins who will dearly miss her happy, caring spirit. Betty was an avid reader, supporter of the arts, traveler, and lifelong learner. She was a proud member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority at WMU, and of P.E.O., Chapter Q. She so enjoyed games of Bridge, Bunco, Dominoes and Mah jong, spending time with friends and family. Betty volunteered with the Ladies Library Association and at St. Augustine Cathedral. Betty is survived by numerous McMurray and Gloor cousins, as well as countless friends she loved as family. Friends will be received Wednesday July 19, 2017 from 4 until 8pm. with a scripture service at 7:30pm at Redmond Funeral Home 4100 S Westnedge Ave, Kalamazoo, MI 49008. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Augustine Cathedral Thursday July 20 at 10am. Inurnment of cremains will be in Chicago with her parents. Memorials may be made to St. Augustine Cathedral or Hackett Catholic Prep.
