Our precious brother, Edward Burkett went to be with the Lord on January 23, 2019. His kind heart and funny sense of humor will be greatly missed by many. We praise God for making Edward’s crippled body whole again so now he can run down heaven’s streets of gold with our dear parents, Gordon Sr. and Anna Burkett, along with our beloved sister, Patricia Meadows, and nephew, Benjamin Burkett. Surviving are a brother, Gordon Jr. and wife, Minnie Burkett from Mendon, a sister, Dianna and husband, James DeVisser from Kalamazoo, and a brother-in-law, Thomas Meadows from St. Louis, along with 16 nieces and nephews. Edward developed deep friendships with a coffee group who has met for years at McDonald’s to start their days. He especially enjoyed the group’s birthday dinner celebrations. Each summer Edward would go to various car shows around the area with his 1972 Ford Mustang to meet up with other car enthusiasts. Edward also volunteered at Shalom, Inc. where he experienced Christ’s love through fellowship with Pastor Keith Lohman as they processed wool and studied the Bible. (If you view Shalom's website, https://www.shalomkazoo.org/, you can see a picture of Edward with Pastor Keith in the woolery.)Visitation will be at Redmond Funeral Home on South Westnedge Sunday, February 3, 2019 from 2-5 p.m. A celebration of Edward’s life will be Monday, February 4, 2019, at Redmond Funeral Home at 11 a.m. with committal at the Mount Everest Chapel immediately following. The family requests donations in Edward’s name be made to Shalom, Inc., located in Parchment, which serves adults with developmental disabilities where they find compassion, understanding and friendship through Christ.
