David M. Caswell, 80, of Kalamazoo, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Kairos Dwelling. David was born July 29, 1944 in Kalamazoo, the son of Max and Margaret (Wisser) Caswell. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy, during which time he underwent rigorous training and testing and was one of the select few who were assigned to serve on a submarine. Upon his discharge from the Navy, David went on to serve his community for 29 years as a police officer for the Kalamazoo Township Police Department, retiring in 2000 as a Detective Sergeant. After retirement, David volunteered for Senior Services as a “Tuesday Toolman” completing projects for area seniors. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and most recently was attending St. Ambrose Parish in Parchment. David enjoyed woodworking, hunting, camping, and working in the yard. He was a devoted and loving family man and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids whom he loved dearly.
David is survived by his wife of 53 years, Debra; four children, DJ (Susan), Chris (Toni), Shawn (Lorraine) and Kim (Forrest); nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; siblings, Chuck, Maxine (Theron) and Marianne. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Dan and his brother Daniel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 1628 E. G Ave., Parchment, MI 49004. Family and friends are welcome to gather at the church from 10 AM until the time of Mass at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. For those desiring to make a contribution in David’s memory, the family suggests Kairos Dwelling.
