David Brian Batey

August 5, 1947 — November 30, 2020

David passed away on November 30, 2020 at home with his wife, Vickie by his side. He was born in Kalamazoo on August 5, 1947 , the son of Harold and Marian (Shafer) Batey. He was in the U.S. Army and served in Viet Nam. He was a heavy duty diesel mechanic and retired from Goodyear Wingfoot and worked part time at D&S Auto after retirement. He always had a strong interest in learning what made things tick and how things worked. David took pride in his ability to fix anything. David volunteered for the Honor Guard at Ft. Custer National Cemetery on Mondays. He was proud to give his time to volunteer and honor fallen Vets. He was always the first person to help a friend or family in need. His many other hobbies included playing guitar in a classic rock band and later hosting Karaoke on Saturday nights at the V.F.W., camping and geocaching with family, and hosting many Memorial Day cookouts. David is survived by his wife Vickie Lynne whom he married on January 27, 1984 in Galesburg: children David (Sandra) of Boerne, TX, Chad Wayne (Shannon) of Three Rivers, Scott Eric (Patti) of Marshall and Sarah Marie (Trevor) Pease of Scotts: 8 grandchildren: 1great-grandchild as well as step-grand and step-great grandchildren: brother: Robert Owen of Kalamazoo: sisters Deborah (John) Hartmann of Galesburg, Pam Peacock of Columbia, TN: several nieces & nephews. Friends will be received Saturday Dec.5,2020 from 1 until 3 and 5 until 7pm. Memorial Services at Ft. Custer will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Battle Creek VA, West Michigan Cancer Center and the Ft.
