Dale Lynn Smith

Dale Lynn Smith, aged 78, of Kalamazoo, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2023.  He was born June 10, 1945 in Borger, TX to the late Carlton and LaVerne (Dunham) Smith, and was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Smith.  

Dale married Sharon Schneider on June 14, 1969 in Parchment, MI and recently celebrated their 54^th anniversary. 

He graduated from Parchment High School in 1963 where he lettered in football, baseball, and tennis.  He attended Michigan Tech and was manager of the hockey team, then transferred to Western Michigan University for his Bachelor and Master degrees in education.

Dale taught drafting and physical education at Comstock High School and later became a master electrician and member of the IBEW union and worked for A&K Electric and Georgia Pacific Paper.  He enjoyed photography, fishing, hunting, scuba diving and water skiing.  

He shared his love of bridge and cribbage with his children and grandchildren, and encouraged them as they rode, and showed, the horses on his farm.  He was a member of the Pony of the America’s club and travelled with his family across the region to equestrian competitions.

Dale is survived by his two children, Steven (Mychelle Hopkins) Smith, Heather (Ian) McKinney; five grandchildren, Alexia Perry, Aidan Macready Smith, Winter Smith, Cael McKinney, Flynn McKinney; several cousins, nieces and nephews. 

Viewings are scheduled 5-7pm Sunday October 22 at Parchment Redmond Funeral Home and 10-11am Monday, October 23 at Parchment United Methodist Church.

Funeral service begins 11am at Parchment United Methodist Church.  Internment at 130pm in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery.
