Betty Joyce Shannon

November 3, 1931 — April 15, 2019

Passed away Monday April 15, 2019 at Brookdale Assisted Living. Betty was born November 3, 1931 in Elkhart, IN the daughter of Lawrence and Gladys (Haynes) Covey. Betty started at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company as a clerk and ended her career there as Director of Sales for the Midwest Region.Besides creating many wonderful family celebrations she loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping and walking.  After retirement her and Larry enjoyed winters in Florida where she was involved in several Red Hat Societies.She was full of joy and laughter but was also a gentle, loving woman.  She was beautiful, intelligent, strong and was an inspiration to many.  She will be dearly missed. On October 12, 1981 in Texas Twp. Betty was united in marriage to Laurence Shannon who survives. Also surviving are Five children, Jack (Kelly) Dygert of Kalamazoo, Paul Dygert of Frankfort, Sonia (Kathy Weber) Dygert of Beulah, Tammy(Ron) VanDerMolens of Bradenton, FL, Colleen (David) Wright of Petoskey; four grandchildren, Matt Dygert, Brad Dygert, Stephanie Trowbridge, Jennifer VanEe; Six great-grandchildren, Nolan Dygert, Ainslie Dygert, Quinley VanEe, Zach Bannan, Ben Bannan, Gabby Trowbridge; brother, Lawrence (Betty) Covey of Elkhart, IN; two sisters, Ruth Wilson of Elkhart, IN, Jorene (William) Kridler of South Bend, IN; several nieces & nephews. Betty was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell Covey; Donald Covey. No services are planned at this time. Interment will be in Hope Cemetery. A memorial service will be planned at a later date.  Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
