Basil F. Harris

Basil F. Harris passed away Thursday August 8, 2019 at Ascension Borgess Hospital. Basil was born September 7, 1932 in Alba, MI the son of Alvah and Edna (Hignite) Harris. He was a Korean War veteran serving in the U.S. Army. Basil formerly worked on the railroad, briefly owned his own automotive shop and retired from G.M. Fisher Body plant in 1992.  He was a founding member of the Rod Benders Car Club. On May 20, 1953 in Kalamazoo Basil was united in marriage to the former Vanda Sines who survives. Also surviving are two children, James Harris of Kalamazoo, Nancy (Steve) Goodwin of Orlando, FL; five brothers, Bill (Nancy) Brewster, Steve Scott, Eugene (Margie) Harris, Leon (Marty) Harris, Garry (Becky) Harris; three sisters, Deanna Humbarger, Phyllis Ellenbaas, Pat (Ron) Voss; two grandsons, Ryan and Adam Goodwin; several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin and Clyde Harris. A memorial service will be held September 15, 2019 4 pm First United Methodist Church 212 S. Park St. Kalamazoo.
