Barbara Gower

Barbara L. Gower, age 95, died peacefully at home on October 24, 2024. She was born December 23, 1928 in Owosso, MI. She was the first of twelve children born to James and Elizabeth (Doane) Eva. She graduated from Owosso High School. She married the love her of life, H. Carl Gower on July 3, 1949. Barbara worked alongside Carl as they owned and published a weekly newspaper. Later she worked in the Human Resources Department at Plainwell Paper Company, Retiring in 1991. Barbara enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading and gardening, especially roses.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl, son Bruce Gower and siblings Joan (William) Natzke, Delores (Douglas) Shaft, Donna Jean (Ken) Hagen, Margaret (Al) Josey, Larry Eva, Richard (Ann) Eva, Marsha (William) Stewart, and Gary Eva.

She is survived by her children Sandra Gower; Cynthia (Pat) Buckley, John (Sue) Gower, daughter-in-law Jolene (Bruce) Gower and siblings Celia (Larry) Kotarak, Virginia Kotarak; Sharon (William) Plashek, and Brother-in-law William Stewart. She also leaves seven grandchildren Heather (Billy) Whitfield; Garth (Kristen) Gower; John (Amanda) Gower; Joshua (Sarah) Gower; Jenna (Carl Spradlin) Gower, Christopher (Michele) Buckley; Veronica (Ryan) Lopshire and twelve great-children.

Services will be held November 2, 2024 at Adams-Redmond Funeral Home, 4100 S. Westnedge Ave., Kalamazoo, MI. Visitation at 10:00 AM and service at 11:00 AM. Luncheon will follow the service. Memorial donations can be made to Centrica Care Navigators or the American Cancer Society.
