Patrick J. McGuire of Portage passed away Monday, March 20, 2017 at Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, from complications of a heart attack suffered February 18. Patrick was born April 25, 1961 in Kalamazoo, the son of Eugene and Ann Marie (Thoma) McGuire. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Western Michigan University. He taught high school math for 6 years in Gaylord, Michigan before returning to the Kalamazoo area where he worked for Trigo (Pizza Hut) for 25 years. Patrick was an avid golfer and was a member of the Lynx golf course in Otsego where he enjoyed the comradery of his golf buddies, who nicknamed him “Magoo”. He also enjoyed traveling the country by car where he combined his love of sightseeing with visits to relatives. He was a fine man with a lovely soul who blessed us all with his joyful presence. His straight-shooting wit made us laugh and endeared him to many. He was a doting uncle to all his nephews and nieces. Patrick had an amazing mind for facts, dates, and trivia. He continually amazed us with his ability to recall events and happenings that no one else could recall. He was preceded in death by his father Eugene McGuire and stepfather William James. Surviving are his mother, Ann Marie James of Kalamazoo; sister, Colleen (John) Flynn of Portage; two step-brothers, William (Donna) James of Kalamazoo, Lawrence (Paula) James of Cedar Crest, NM; nieces and nephews; Meagan Flynn, Daniel Flynn, Jennifer (Nate Oppenneer) James, Elizabeth (Jonathan) Caswell, Kaitlyn (Joe) Geiser, Will James, Amy James, Stephanie Wilson; and many uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends, especially Eric and Renee Walls, and children, who he considered family. Visitation is scheduled from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday, March 24, 2017 at Parchment Redmond Funeral Home, 2300 East "G" Ave. Parchment, MI 49004 (269) 349-7735. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Parchment with a luncheon to follow in the church hall. Interment will be at a later date in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Patrick donated his tissues and corneas to the Gift of Life.
