Jane Marjorie Geeting

October 25, 1927 — January 29, 2017

89, went home to be with the Lord January 29, 2017. Jane was born October 25, 1927 to John C. and Frances (Laban) VanderMel. She married Ernest Merwin Geeting, May 16, 1947 and they remained married until his death in 2011. Jane worked a variety of jobs during her lifetime including: nurse's aide, secretary, kitchen worker. But the "job" she loved most was being a mother and devoting herself to her family. Jane loved kids. She even became a foster parent for a number of children throughout the 1970's and was a 'second mom' to many others. She was involved in De Colores in Muskegon and was a member of Mona Shores Baptist Church in Norton Shores for many years and later Calvary Church in Muskegon. Jane sang in the choir at Mona Shores and was on their church bowling team. Jane's favorite recreational activity was RV camping. She and Ernest were members of the Happy Wanderers trailer club and tried never to miss a camping rally. Jane and Ernest moved from Muskegon to Portage in 2009. She is survived by one son Ernest John (wife, Kimberly) Geeting of Kalamazoo, MI, and stepdaughter Viola Green of Norman, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest and her daughter Ellen Hardy who resided in Jackson, MI. She has 6 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Jane had 2 brothers, Harry VanderMel of Norton Shores, Michigan and David Vandermel of Virginia, both of whom have also preceded her in death. The family will be holding a private memorial gathering in Kalamazoo, yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her honor to the Muskegon Rescue Mission or Gideons International.
