Patrick E. Loftus

Patrick E. Loftus of Kalamazoo passed away Tuesday January 12, 2016 at Kairos Dwelling. Patrick was born May 19, 1934 in Kalamazoo the son of Francis and Juanita (Nourie) Loftus. He was a Korean War veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. Patrick retired a member of the Heat and Frost Insulators, Local 47 in the field of construction for many years in the area and was widely traveled as a tradesman. On March 10, 1956 Patrick was united in marriage to the former MaryAnn Wakeland who survives, also surviving is a son, Kelly (Norma) Loftus of Los Angeles, California; daughter Mickey Ann Loftus-Phillips of Vermontville; brother, Mike Loftus of Kalamazoo; sister, Lee (Bert) Weese of Kalamazoo; sister-in-law, Carol Rogers of Kalamazoo; nephew, trusted friend and colleague, Daniel (Karen) Tessin, Kalamazoo. Five step grandchildren. Many dear nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian Wilcox. Patrick as a “playground kid” in Kalamazoo’s Vine St. School neighborhood evolved into a lifetime sports enthusiast. He enjoyed all sports; high school, college and professional levels. He was active in the development of young boys in organized baseball and football. Also active with basketball, hockey, girls tennis and volleyball. Coaching truly enhanced his life, benefitting in life- long friendships. Patrick delighted in his own family’s participation I their competitive athletic endeavors. In his retirement he enjoyed many years of summer employment and countless rounds of golf at his favorite course Gull Lake View Golf Club. Golf was his passion and the highlight of his retirement at home and in our travels. Friends will be received 11:30 am – 1:00 pm. Saturday January 23, 2016 at Redmond Funeral Home, 4100 S. Westnedge Ave. Kalamazoo, MI 49008 (269) 343-6156 where services will be held following at 1:00 pm lead by Rv. Rachel Lonberg. Interment will take place at a later date at Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Kairos Dwelling.
