Edward William Randt, Jr.

Died on December 24, 2015 following a 4 1/2 year battle with cancer. Edward was born on August 1, 1938 in Benton Harbor MI to the late Edward W. Sr. and Alice (Fites) Randt. He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Randt and his sister, Linda Lou Randt. Edward is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Dalrymple) Randt, whom he married on September 29, 1961...54 wonderful years! Edward worked for KVP Sutherland in Parchment before he became an employee at Western Michigan University. Edward retired after nearly 30 years as a journeyman plumber. For a number of years Ed enjoyed serving the Parchment community as a volunteer fireman. Fishing and gardening were two of Ed's favorite pastimes. He also loved putting jigsaw puzzles together, polishing rocks, running his train set and of course, spending time with his grandchildren. Ed was a charter member of Lutheran Church of the Savior in Kalamazoo and over the years was always willing to take care of any maintenance that needed to be done. Ed is also survived by three children: Edward Scott Randt of Parchment, MI; Jodie (Tim) Laraway of Pullman, MI and Tamara (Barry) Bialik of Traverse City, MI; five grandchildren and one great grandson; two brother's, Dennis (Maryanne) Randt of Allen Park, MI and Kenneth (Tammy) Randt of Portage, MI and a sister, Carol (William) Taylor of Grand Haven, MI.; many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Lutheran Church of the Savior, 3616 East G Ave., Kalamazoo, MI on Friday, January 15, at 10:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. and a luncheon in the church Fellowship Hall. The Rev. Andrew Tengwall will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, the West Michigan Cancer Center or Lutheran Church of the Savior.
