Jetta Pearl Swiat

July 31, 1925 — October 5, 2015

Jetta Pearl Swiat of Kalamazoo passed away Monday October 5, 2015 at home. Jetta was born July 31, 1925 one of a set of twins to Dale and Jesse (Faurot) Finch in St. Johns. She married Thomas L. Swiat, the love of her life on June 9, 1947 who survives along with her children; Tom (Pricilla) Swiat, Jr., Kathleen (Bill) Howard, Ann (Mike) Gibbons and David Swiat who has been her primary caretaker these last months. Also surviving is her granddaughter Aaron (Dan) Sampson; great-grandchildren, Caroline, Jack and Nathalie Sampson; her brother, Fielding (Sharon) Finch; her brother-in-law, Leo (DeVon) Swiat; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and twin sister, Jean Hoekje. Jetta graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in education. She was an original member of Service Club of Kalamazoo (now Junior League) and for many years she volunteered to do Braille transcription, taught 1st graders to read at KPS and volunteered with Ministry with Community. Jetta was an avid golfer who played the game into her mid 80’s at Kalamazoo Country Club. She and her girlfriends gathered weekly for lunch right up to her 90th birthday. Friends are being received 5-8 pm Thursday, October 8, 2015 at Redmond Funeral Home, 4100 S. Westnedge Ave. Kalamazoo, MI 49008 (269) 343-6156. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 am Friday at St. Monica Catholic Church. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
