James Anthony Maher

James A. Maher of Kalamazoo, passed away Tuesday September 8, 2015 at home. James was born October 19, 1917 in Hillsdale the son of James and Margaret (Shields) Maher. He was a 1936 graduate of St. Augustine School and was a WW II veteran serving in the U.S. Army. James was employed as a Yard Master for New York Central Railroad and retired under Conrail. James was united in Marriage in Kalamazoo to the former Helen Kowalczyk who preceded him in death in 2007. Surviving are two sons, Jim Maher, Jr. of Kalamazoo, Michael Maher of Plainwell; four nephews. He was preceded in death by a son Patrick Maher; brother Ben Maher and a niece Martha. A Rosary will be recited 9:30 am Monday, September 14, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church where friends will be received for visitation 10-11 am. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated following at 11am. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church.
