Julius "Matt" Robert Matyas

Julius Robert "Matt" Matyas of Kalamazoo, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2015 at the Battle Creek V.A. Medical Center. Matt was born October 16, 1922 in Kalamazoo, the son of Stephen and Magdalene (Zekany) Matyas. He was a graduate of St. Augustine High School and was in the U.S. Army Air Forces during WWII receiving the Silver Star & Two Bronze Battle Stars in five combat campaigns. Matt was an avid Notre Dame sports fan and enjoyed traveling with his wife Donna to Vegas over the years. On Nov. 4, 1950 he was united in marriage to the former Donna Ransome who preceded him in death on Aug. 19, 2012. Surviving is a daughter, Judith Lumbard of Richland; brother, Louis (Carol) Matyas of Montana; six grandchildren, Diane, Lucas, Noelle, Justine, Austin, Trevor; 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan; son Timothy; grandson, Nicolas; nine brothers. Friends are being received 6-8 pm Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Parchment Redmond Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1 pm Thursday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
