Walter F. Liesinger, Sr. of Portage, passed away Monday, April 6, 2015 at Borgess Medical Center. Walter was born February 13, 1933 in Chicago, IL the son of Alfred and Erna (Priedigkeit) Liesinger. Known affectionately as Nampa by his grandchildren, Walter was the epitome of kindness and courage throughout his entire life. Graduating from Parchment High School, and receiving schooling at WMU for becoming a Master Electrician. Retiring after 41 years of service from The James River Paper Company. Owner of The Foreign Shop in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Wally was a member of the Sojourner's Motor Cycle Club, he lived to ride anything on two wheels, especially his antique BSA Golden Flash Royal Tourist. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Wally lived as an example of service to all those around him, active in the ARC, KHU and in 2003 was awarded the Gazette Star Award and the Kalamazoo County Treasurer’s Award. Walter married the love of his life Claudine (Jones) in September of 1956, and continued to define and show his love to her until her passing on November 17th, 2014. Wally is survived by his daughter Penni Liesinger of Portage, MI, son John Liesinger of Atlanta, GA; four grandchildren, Candace (Michael) Laughead, James (Valerie) Best, Allen (Jennifer) TenBusschen, and Craig (available) TenBusschen; five great-grandchildren, Eva, Penelope, Edie, Naomi and Posey. He was preceded in death by a son Walter (Beezer) Liesinger Jr. in 2009 and a brother, Alfred Liesinger. Friends will be received 11-1pm Friday, April 10, 2015 at Redmond Funeral Home, 4100 S.
