Robert A. Wagner of Kalamazoo, passed away Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Borgess Medical Center. He was born June 6, 1923 in Battle Creek, the son of Chester and Charlotte (Burgess) Wagner. Robert was a U.S. Army veteran serving in WWII and a graduate of Battle Creek Central High School and Kalamazoo College. He was employed for over 39 years by the Kalamazoo Gazette as a sports writer and wrote a column Bobbin’ Around With Bob Wagner. Robert covered the USTA National Boys Tennis Tournament and wrote a book about the tournament, he also co-authored a book about the MIAA. He was a 50 year member and taught Sunday school at the Parchment United Methodist Church and was a past president of the Parchment Library Board. On March 27, 1947 in Battle Creek, Robert was united in marriage to the former Elzora “Ellie” Leiter who survives. Also surviving are a son, Scott Wagner of Ft. Wayne, IN; two daughters, Susan (Keith) Meyering of Grand Rapids, Diane (John) Hamlin of Marshall; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received from 11 – 12 on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the Parchment United Methodist Church, where services will be held at Noon. A private interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Battle Creek at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Parchment United Methodist Church or Kindleberger Park Foundation.
