Esther Marie Hall

Esther Marie Hall passed away September 27, 2014 at Directors Hall in Kalamazoo, MI. She was born December 5, 1916 in Ionia, MI, the daughter of Charles and Caroline (Brodersen) Peterson. She graduated from Ionia High School and Western Michigan University. Esther was a member of the Parchment United Methodist Church since 1957 and was always very active, teaching Sunday School for many years. She taught at Holland Public Schools for 15 years prior to her marriage and then once her children went to school, taught nursery school for 14 years at the Parchment Co-Op Nursery School. Her true passion in life was her family and working with children. Esther was united in marriage on June 28, 1952 to Fred W. H. Hall (former Superintendent of Schools in Parchment), who preceded her in death in 1989. In addition to her husband and parents, Esther was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 5 sisters. Surviving are her daughters Suzanne (Greg) DeWard of Parchment and Dr. Christine Hall (Rick Ashcroft) of Escondido, CA. Also surviving are three grandchildren Nicole (Tony) Pfennig of Richland; Thomas DeWard of Parchment; John Ashcroft of Escondido, CA and 2 great-grandchildren, Zachary and Cassidy Pfennig, along with numerous nieces and nephews. A special thanks to Amanda Dionne and her family who made it possible for Esther to stay in her home longer, to the staff at Directors Hall where Esther lived for more than 7 years, and to Hospice of SW Michigan. Friends will be received for visitation at Parchment United Methodist Church, 225 Glendale Blvd Parchment, MI 49004 on Saturday, November 1 at 10 am.
