Sister Aurilla Cousino, CSJ

Sister Aurilla Cousino, CSJ, entered into eternal life Friday, July 11, 2014 at Nazareth Center. Sister was born Irma Cousino on June 17 1915 in Toledo, OH the daughter of Cornelius and Aurilla (Etue) Cousino. She was a member of the Congregation of St. Joseph. Sister Aurilla earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Nazareth College and a Master of Arts degree in History from the University of Detroit. She did post-graduate work at the University of Notre Dame and received certification in Religious Education at Pius XII Institute in Detroit. Sister Aurilla taught/administered in several schools of the Congregation. For several years she did secretarial work at Bronson Hospital and St. Augustine Parish in Kalamazoo and in the Nazareth Central Offices. In 1991 Sister Aurilla retired, but continued to do part-time work in the Fontbonne Library, the SSJ History Room and tutor at the Kalamazoo Literacy Council. She also coordinated the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program at Nazareth. Surviving is a Niece, Theresa Smrekar of Toledo, OH, many caring, devoted friends and the Congregation of St. Joseph. Friends will be received at Nazareth Center, Monday after 4 PM. A wake service will be held at 7 PM in the Holy Family Chapel where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, 10:30 AM.
