George C. Small

George C. Small of Galesburg, passed away December 19, 2013. He was born December 18, 1920 in Burlington, NC. The son of Patrick and Lizzy (Lindsey) Small. He was a World Word II Veteran serving in the U.S. Army which he was involved in the invasion of Normandy and the Rhindland Campaign. He received a purple heart with an oak leaf cluster, three bronze campaign stars, and the French Croix de Guerre. He retired as an electrician from the James River Corporation. George was a member of the St. Ambrose Catholic Church. He was a life member of the Augusta VFW post #7956, American Legion Post #36 and the Disable American Veterans. Surviving are Fiancé Marion (Micki) Klepper of Augusta; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his former wives, Olive (Dreir) Small and Wilodean “Deana” Small; two brothers and five sisters. Friends are being received Monday 10-11am at St. Ambrose Catholic Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am with Rev. Fr. James O’Leary, Celebrant. Interment will be Hillside Cemetery in Plainwell. Contributions can be made to Augusta VFW post 7956.
