Richard J. Verdon of Cooper Township, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2013 in Plainwell. Richard was born, April 19, 1922 in Kalamazoo, the son of Robert and Viola (Buofford) Verdon. He was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Army Air Forces. Richard worked 21 years for KVP now Brown Co. then for the City of Parchment as clerk/tax accessor, retiring in 1989. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, and volunteered at the Kalamazoo Air Zoo and Nature Center. On July 5, 1947 in Kalamazoo Richard was united in marriage to the former Nellie Socha, who preceded him in death in 2010. Surviving are a daughter, Maribeth (Tim) Verdon Andrews of Vicksburg; son, James (Kim) Verdon of Parchment; brother, Tom Verdon of Dayton, OH; 4 grandchildren, Josh Andrews, Stephanie Andrews Orr, Holly Verdon and Cory Verdon; 2 great-grandchildren, Abigail and Greta Andrews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Verdon.
