John D. Pelikan

December 21, 1926 — November 1, 2013

John D. Pelikan of Kalamazoo, passed away, Friday November 1, 2013 at Borgess Medical Center. He was born Dec. 21, 1926 in Kalamazoo the son of John and Thelma (Surdick) Pelikan. John was a U.S. Navy veteran during WWII. He retired as a Machinist for Hydrco Mfg. John was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus #1616, Notre Dame Club, Elks and VFW Post #827, he was an avid Norte Dame fan. On September 15, 1951 John was united in marriage for over 62 years to the former Mary Ciluffo, who survives. Also surviving are 3 brothers, Tony Pelikan of Kalamazoo, Richard (Delma) Pelikan of Schooolcraft, Robert (Mary Ann) Pelikan of Cooper Twp; 4 sisters, Pauline (Robert) Bullis, Janet Cady of Portage, Mary Ellen Jones of Reed City and Carol (Robert) Carr of Kalamazoo; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a 2 sister, Violet DeYoung and Frances Bolle; brother, James Pelikan. Friends are being received Monday 6-8 PM with a rosary at 7PM at the Redmond Funeral Home, 4100 S. Westnedge Ave. Kalamazoo, MI 49008. (269) 343-6156. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:30 AM at St. Monica's Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Robert Consani, Celebrant.
