Anna Isabel McAllister

Passed away Sunday, September 8, 2013 at Kairos Dwelling. Anna was born September 4, 1917 in Kalamazoo the daughter of F. Eugene and Effie Marie (Baumann) McAllister. She graduated from St. Augustine High School and after high school she worked part time at J.R. Jones Department Store, in the jewelry and silver department. Business became very slow and they closed out the department. She started working for Kalamazoo Laundry Co. before Gilmore Brothers called her and she decided to leave her office job at the laundry and go back to selling. She started there in 1940 for the holiday season working part-time for quite a few years. In 1955 they put in escalators and she got to work for Sadie Green in the beautiful new 4th floor jewelry, silver and gift department which she loved. In 1959 she was made buyer of the department. She spent 37 years at Gilmore's. At age 60 she retired to stay home and take care of her mother. She is survived by 11 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Edward and Frederick McAllister; 3 sisters, Catherine Whethem, Josephine Munn, and Margaret Allman. Friends are being received Thursday 5-7 PM with a rosary at 7 PM at Redmond Funeral Home, 4100 S. Westnedge Ave. Kalamazoo, MI 49008. (269) 343-6156. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. Michael D. Hazard, Celebrant. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
