Ellen Johanna Golden Curran

Ellen Johanna Golden Curran passed away at the age of 89 on June 21, 2013 at home. She was born November 27, 1923 in Benton Harbor to John William and Mary Jane (Lanata) Golden. Ellen graduated from St. John High School in Benton Harbor. Ellen attended a nursing school in Chicago, before moving to Washington, D.C. to work in the Fingerprint Division of the FBI. There she married her husband of 63 years, V. Lemar Curran. They raised their family in Kalamazoo since 1947. Ellen was a school library aide in Croyden Ave, Westwood and West Main schools and Northglade Elementary then was a clerk in the Media Dept. of the Kalamazoo Schools. An avid gardener, Ellen also enjoyed traveling, quilting, crocheting, knitting and sewing. She was a volunteer with the Senior Services knitting group until she fell and broke her hip in 2012. She belonged to the Irish American Club, NARF, and MSPERS. She was a longtime member of St. Augustine Cathedral. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Vernon Lemar Curran, her son Brian Lemar Curran, her parents, and brother, John Joseph Golden. Surviving are six children, Barbara (Jim) Noyes of Eaton Rapids, Patricia (Dan Reszka) Curran of Elk Rapids, Dennis (Andy) Curran of Cathedral City, CA, Vicky Curran of Brighton, CO, Melissa Curran of Valrico, FL and Maureen (Anna) Curran of Woodridge, IL. Also surviving are her two grandchildren Jon (Yu Man) Noyes of Okemos, Jerry (Christina) Noyes of Eaton Rapids, and five great-grandchildren, Keenan Noyes, Connor Noyes, Caitlyn Noyes of Okemos and Caylee Noyes and Robert Noyes of Eaton Rapids. Her sister, Florence (Leon) Michael of Sutton’s Bay, sister-in-law, Mildred (John) Buffalo of CA, brother-in-law Richard (Lettie) Curran of TX and several nieces and nephews. Inurnment will be in Crystal Springs Cemetery, Benton Harbor at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of S/W Michigan. Arrangement by Redmond Funeral Home, 4100 S.
