Michael Julius Czernecki, age 96, passed away June 3, 2013 in El Cajon, CA. Mike was born August 26, 1916 in Kalamazoo, the son of Julius and Anna (Kuternoga) Czernecki. He graduated from St. Augustine High School where he excelled in football and was All Polish-All-American. He then attended Marquette University on a football scholarship and played in the first Cotton Bowl in 1936. After graduating from Marquette University he joined the Army in World War II. He moved out west and worked for American Standard for over 40 years as a field inspector. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Eddie and Paul Czernecki; sisters, Helen Roberts and Julie Schiebergen. He is survived by his sisters; Millie (Joe) Crookston, Kalamazoo, Mary Hale, San Diego, CA; 24 nieces and nephews, many great and great-great nieces and nephews and a special nephew, Bobby McCarthy, who was his caregiver for the last two years.
