Lewis W. Bashaw

October 4, 1926 — April 18, 2013

Mr. Lewis Bashaw passed away Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo. He was born October 4, 1926 in Dowagiac, MI, the son of Francis and Belle (Johnston) Bashaw. He proudly served his country during WW II in the US Army where he participated in the Berlin Airlift. He also served in the Air Force in the Korean War. He was employed as an insurance adjuster with CIGNA for many years. He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Parish in Portage. Lewis served on the Portage City Council and was active in the Republican Party. He was a warm and loving man who had a great sense of humor. He loved his family and being on the golf course. He was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Bashaw. Lewis is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Lola (Chubinski) Bashaw; their children Ann (Tom) Salamun of Kalamazoo, Paul (Robin) Bashaw and Leslie Gower, both of Portage; grandchildren Austin and Lauren Bashaw and Charlie Gower; siblings Barbara Moses of Dowagiac, Larry (Rita) Bashaw of Wyoming, MI, and Charlie (Patti) Bashaw of South Bend, IN; and serveral nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Sunday, April 21, 2013 from 5-8PM at Redmond Funeral Home, 4100 S. Westnedge Ave., 269-343-6156, with a Rosary at 7PM. A Memorial Mass will take place Monday, April 22 at 10:30AM at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1150 W. Centre in Portage, Fr. Robert Creagan celebrant. Interment at Fort Custer National Cemetery will take place on Friday, June 14, 2013 at 2PM; please arrive at Cortege Assembly area by 1:45. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rose Arbor Hospice or Hospice Care of SW MI, 222 N. Kalamazoo Mall Suite 100, Kalamazoo, MI 49007
