M. Evelyn Finder

February 11, 1924 — March 31, 2013

Mae Evelyn Finder passed away Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013 at Friendship Village in Kalamazoo. Evelyn was born February 11, 1924 in Marietta, OH, the daughter of Milo and Amanda (Stauch) Reynolds. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Evelyn approached everyone with her "no nonsense" style. She was a long-time member of Central United Methodist Church (Muskegon, MI), UMW circle member, a secretary for the Muskegon Heights Public Schools for many years, enjoyed gardening, sewing, and was the supportive "band parent" to her sons. Evelyn will be remembered most for her role as tireless caregiver for her husband, George, who was stricken with Multiple Sclerosis shortly after their marriage and preceded her in death in 1997 after 49 years together. Also preceding her in death were her parents, one brother, and two sisters. Evelyn is survived by her children Richard (Betty) Finder and Roger (Gayle) Finder of Portage, MI; grandchildren Tiffany (Simon) Corey, Brea (Bryan) Bennett, Christopher, Rebecca, and Alan Finder; great-grandchildren Adrianna M., Keegan L., and Alexa S. Corey, and Kalissa E. Bennett; sisters Betty (Robert) Weeks of Easton, PA, Virginia Schwendeman of Beverly, OH, and Mary (Bill) Hinton of Lowell, OH, and the employees and staff of Friendship Village, who became like family as they cared for her the past 13 years. A memorial service will be held in the KIVA at Friendship Village on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 2PM, Rev. Shelly Wisdom-Long of First United Methodist Church officiating. Private interment with graveside service will be in Mona View Cemetery, Muskegon Heights, MI, on Friday, April 5, 2013 with Pastor Diane Gordon of Central United Methodist Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Friendship Village Employee Appreciation Fund, with the heartfelt thanks from Evelyn's family.
