Joyce Ann Phelps

March 15, 1951 — March 27, 2013

Joyce Ann (Christie) Phelps passed away quietly Wednesday, March 27, 2013 after a 34 year battle with MS. Joyce was born to James and Eva (King) Christie on March 15, 1951 and they took her home to grow up on the Christie farm south of Lawrence. She was the third daughter with three more siblings to follow. Her favorite pet was "Nancy," her 4-H cow. She enjoyed 4-H and band through high school. Joyce always had a smile on her face and a hug in her arms. She made many friends throughout the years. She loved playing cards and just plain talking about "the good ole' days," as well as dancing at the Grange. She was the envy of her sisters as her naturally wavy hair was thick and beautiful, and always received a comment from those who cared for her. Joyce is survived by her two sons: Joel (Catherine) of Grand Rapids, and Gary (Amber) of Lawrence; seven grandchildren: Jacob and Ava, Jimmy, Sierra, McKenzie, Christopher, and Brody; her sisters Linda Julien of Allegan, June (Felix) Bartotto of Illinois, and Terrie (Mark) Hunkins of Otsego; her two brothers James (Mary) of Kalamazoo, and Chip (Raquel) of Lawrence; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews who will remember their "Aunt Juicy." Cremation has taken place according to her wishes and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Inurnment of cremains will take place Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 12Noon in Hamilton Cemetery, with a luncheon immediately following at the Grange Hall. For those wishing to attend, please contact a family member or check the funeral home web page. Memorial contributions may be made to Life Care Center of Plainwell or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in care of the funeral home, Redmond Funeral Home, 4100 S.
