Michael T. Barrett, USN Retired of Kalamazoo, passed away at his home on Thursday, March 14, 2013. Michael was born April 6, 1937 in Kalamazoo, the son of Daniel and Charlotte (Kelly) Barrett. He was a U.S. Navy Retiree having served on the USS Pueblo when it was captured in 1968. He was then held as a POW for 11 months and was the recipient of 2 purple heart, POW Medal and other recognitions. He was a member of the DAV, PVA, Kalamazoo ALANO Club, and also the VFW and Knights of Columbus. Michael was well known for enjoying the very latest in electronics. He is survived by his wife, Claudia (Pearson) together with 26 years, his former wife Ursula Barrett of Kalamazoo; son Daniel Barrett of Kalamazoo; daughter, Susanne (Rodney) Porter of Galesburg; 3 step-sons, Christopher Burnham of WA, Martin Bedecs of MT, C. Nathan Bedecs of Galesburg; brother, Timothy Barrett of Fremont; 5 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson and 1 nephew. Friends will be received Tuesday from 1-3 & 6-8 pm at the Redmond Funeral Home, 4100 S. Westnedge Ave. Kalamazoo, MI 49008, (269) 343-6156, where services will be held Wednesday at 12 noon with Rev. James Dyke officiating. Interment will be held at Ft. Custer National Cemetery immediately following the service, .
