John Paul Gesmundo

John Paul "JP" Gesmundo, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 28, 2013, at Kairos Dwelling, Kalamazoo, MI. John Paul “JP” was born May 22, 1954, in Kalamazoo, MI, the son of Serafino and Marian (Erway) Gesmundo. He graduated from Gull Lake High School, married Patty Bessert in 1985, became a Director of Bullock House, a co-owner of Mid-West Marketing and later sold cars for M&M Honda and Fairway Auto Sales. JP was known for his loud and contagious laughter, his fun-loving nature and his kind and generous heart. He was loyal and deeply committed to his family and friends. On more than one occasion, JP “adopted” his children’s friends, welcoming them into his home and extending his support for however long they were needed. JP enjoyed chess, sports, swimming, fishing, games of chance and especially playing poker. He was the quintessential salesman and sometimes just his smile and a few golden words were enough to “close the deal.” JP enjoyed challenging family and friends to a round of golf and delighted in engaging others in a spirited game of Bocce ball at family gatherings. He appreciated listening to jazz and blues music, was a consummate storyteller and playful jokester. JP is survived by his three children: Jayson (Katie) Gesmundo of Vicksburg, Nikki (Robert Patterson) Gesmundo of San Diego, and Taylor Gesmundo of Kalamazoo; his siblings: Joe (Sherry) Gesmundo of Augusta, Jack (Martha) Gesmundo of Delton; Gail (Jim) Gesmundo-Lyons of North Carolina; Gary (Gayla) Gesmundo of Hickory Corners, and Judah (Paul Raynes) Gesmundo, Maria Gesmundo, James (Barb) Gesmundo; Jay (Michele Libbrecht) Gesmundo; Vicki (Mike Marcinek) Gesmundo, and Marymarie (Mark) Rice all of Richland; and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Serafino and Marian Gesmundo. Visitation will be at Redmond Funeral Home, 4100 S. Westnedge Ave, Kalamazoo, on Friday, March 8th from 6-8pm. A memorial celebration will be held on Saturday, March 9, at noon at St. Ann Catholic Church, 12648 East D Avenue, Augusta, MI, with a reception lunch following.
