John M. Sydor

John M. Sydor of Portage, age 90, passed away January 8, 2013. He was born December 1, 1922 in Detroit, MI, son of Annie and Michael Sydor. He was a WW II US Army veteran serving in the South Pacific. He spent his career on the Detroit Police Force, rising to the rank of lieutenant. He retired in 1970 and moved to Arizona where he resided for the next 20 years. He returned to Michigan and moved to Portage in 1991. He is survived by his wife, Helen; 2 sisters; several nieces and nephews; and his extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Francis. Per John’s request, he has been cremated. Private services will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery Monday, January 28, 2013. An open house to honor John’s memory will be held Sunday, January 27 from 1-5PM at the home of Michael and Louise Kenny.
